French Grape Barrels

Two French grape harvesting barrels. These are made for use as a pair for transport on horseback. Carried by humans this type of barrel is called an ‘hotte’ whereas carried on horseback in pairs they are ‘comportes’. Wood with cast iron handles. Great age and patina with the interiors stained red by the grapes. The perfect log basket. Unless you happen to own a vineyard and horse.
