Stoneware Model 148 Vase by Arne Bang, Denmark, 1930s

Pale stone, matte-glazed Model 148 vase by Arne Bang, Denmark, 1930s. It has a signed monogram AB on the base. Such incised marks are often found on pieces Bang created as test glazes, prototypes, or unique items. The pale stone glaze, in combination with an incised mark on a Model 148, suggests a production date from the late 1930s to the 1940s. This fine example shows the mottling also associated with Bang’s earlier work. During this period, Bang heavily favoured matte, earthy tones. This piece shows a higher level of detail than is more commonly seen in Model 148 vases.
